‘EMMA CHOI’는 도예∙조각을 기반으로

흙과 다양한 재료의 조화를 보여주는 작업을 선보입니다.

작가는 ‘흙’을 자기 자신 혹은 기준점으로 생각합니다.

몇 가지 기본 형태를 성형하여 새로운 형태를 재/구성하거나,

‘기준점’ 벗어난 외부의 자극을 의미하는 다양한 재료를 사용하여,

다시 그 기준이 되는 ‘흙’과의 조화 – 완전성 –을 빚어냅니다.

작가는 나무의 자연스러우면서도 불안한 꺾임 등과 같은 풍경에서 느껴지는 형태와

그 형태들이 자연과 연결되는 그 ‘조화’로움에서 영감을 얻습니다.

이를 토대로 작가는 작업실 주변에서 쉽게 발견할 수 있는

떨어진 나뭇가지, 딛고 서있는 흙 등을 재료로, 이들의 조화를 통해

완전한 형태를 찾아가는 작업을 하고 있습니다.

이러한 작가의 여정을 피노크에서 함께 할 수 있습니다. 

Emma Choi has produced a well-harmonised body of works

comprising ceramics and sculpture through the exploration of form

and various materials.

The artist has considered ‘Clay’ as ‘herself and the point of origin’.

Working in porcelain and other materials as an external stimulus,

the forms of her works are (re)structured and featured ‘perfection’

in balance with the materials.  

Choi uses nature-inspired forms such as a rounded branch structure,

and the harmony of forms in nature. Her works reveal the process

of shaping the integrity through materials like soil and branches

easily found around her studio.
